At www.familysearch.org, 1880 United States Census, there was a Richard Taylor, living in Jersey City, NJ. This was
Richard Emerson Taylor, b. February 1, 1859 in County Down, Ireland. Richard was a single man living in the home of William A. Stevens in Precinct 7, District 1, Jersey City, Hudson Co., NJ. He is listed as a labourer.
If this is our Richard Taylor, he was a single man in 1880, living in Jersey City. Next we will look at the household where Richard Taylor was living:
Richard Emerson Taylor was living in the household of William A. Stevens. Stevens and his wife had several boarders including Richard Taylor, Joseph Taylor, and Martha Taylor. In the chart prepared by Harold G. Meek, Richard had a brother named Joseph born September 1, 1863, and a sister named Martha, born January 5, 1857. These birthdays would match the ages of Joseph and Martha Taylor.
Both men are working as labourers and Martha is working as a dress-maker.
But go to Previous household and let’s see who was living right next door to our three Taylors.
Richard Emerson Taylorand his brother and sister were living next door to John Fryer, 70 years old and a native of Ireland. This John Fryer is living with his son, also a John Fryer, John’s wife, Anna C. and a son. There is another male, Thomas Fryer in the household.
Who is John Fryer? According to the chart prepared by Harold G. Meek, this John Fryer was married to Charlotte Taylor, sister of Richard Taylor, the father of Richard Emerson Taylor. Two of Richard Taylor’s sisters married brothers with the surname of Fryer. (Charlotte and Martha). Harold G. Meek’s chart reads: “John Fryer was the brother of James Taylor who married Martha Taylor. John and his wife Charlotte had children (unknown names) and emigrated to the United States.”
