Dear Elizabeth,
Hello, thank you for visiting my site-I'm glad you like it! :)
That's really interesting about your Fuhs name-I came across a website about a week ago, about the Foose/Fuss surname, which means 'foot'in German.
According to a family history I have on the Fuchs surname,Fuhs and Vuhs were the original German spellings of the German word'Fuchs',which does mean fox.
In fact, one of the earliest people on record with the Fuchs surname had it spelled Fuhs, and he resided in Cologne,Germany.
Based on this info about Fuhs, meaning 'foot',my guess is that the name Fuhs comes from both Fuss/Foose and Fuchs-I think that some Fuhs families' name derived from 'Fuchs'and others derived from 'fuss',or the German word for foot.
Also, the Fuss/Foose name also occurred in the Alsace region,as did my own Fuhs family name, which makes me think that my theory is correct.
That's interesting that your name is pronounced 'foose',as in 'goose.' Ours is pronounced'fuse,'as in a light fuse.
Thanks for your info,I appreciate it.
Elisabeth
