This may be a clue to your Carpenter line: Gober History: Gober is located approximately 10 miles southeast of Bonham, Texas. About 150 years old, it was settled on the head waters of the Sulphur River. It was first called Grittersville. By 1874 the James M. Carpenter, Sr. familly came to the area and settled on Rock Creek.These people came in wagons drawn by oxen.They were from Alabama.
The Carpenter family donated most of the land for the Gober cemetery. They also donated some of the land for the Gober school.
