While researching the family of my husband's niece, I found that two Fulgham brothers married into her Terry family. One brother was Edmond Fulgham who married Sarah Ann Terry and the other was Elias Fulgham who married Sarah's sister Mary Elizabeth Terry.
Some Fulgham family researchers have it that Elias died in 1865 during the Civil War and is buried in Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton VA as E Fulgham. It now appears that E Fulgham is not Elias Fulgham who married Mary Elizabeth Terry. What follows is documentation I have found plus a few suggestions as to what may be the actual death period of Elias:
Elias Fulgham b abt 1833 AL (per 1870 census) d bet 1874 and 1880 TX or AR
1870 Tarrant Co TX - Precinct 3 - Fort Worth PO listed as E M Fulghan (Heritage Quest's indexing) with wife M, sons B F and C, and daughters S and M
1880 Sebastian Co AR - Mississippi Township wife Mary is widowed with 5 children all with the Fulgham surname and living with her widowed father Thomas Terry; also in household is Mary's nephew Lee H Terry
In the 1870 census the boys were listed as being born in TX whereas the girls were listed with a birthplace of AR.I suspect that shortly after Elias and Mary married that they moved to TX and while there the two girls were born.Around 1860 Mary's two older brothers Francis and Gideon had purchased land in Sebastian Co AR and most likely Elias moved his family there knowing this. The two boys were born during this time.By 1870 Elias decided to move the family back to TX where another 2 girls were born, the last abt 1874.Since Mary is living in Sebastian Co AR in 1880, it's hard to say where Elias died.He could have died in TX and Mary decided to move back to Sebastian Co AR to be close to her family or Elias could have moved the family and died after the move but before the 1880 census.
It is my hope that this helps those who are researching the Fulgham and/or Terry families.
