Sorry to hear about the death of your mother.Dwight Needens from Everett, Washington sent me a copy of the notice that was printed in the paper.Dwight is doing some books, 4-6 volumes, on the descendants of Old Matthias Hoover, the founder of Hoover’s Gap, Rutherford County, TN.
I used to know you about 48 years ago when you went to school at Christiana, TN and when you lived at Hoover’s Gap.I lived in the Fox Hollow across the hill from where you lived (Lowe Hollow). How is your brother, Bob, doing? Tell him I should have the Hoover’s Gap book finished soon, hopefully by May. In case you haven’t figured it out, my grandfather, John Delbridge and your grandfather, Bob Delbridge, were brothers. That makes you and I second cousins.
Your grandmother, Aunt Della, had two brothers (Charles J. and Willis C) and one sisters (Molly Fulks) and Three half-brothers (James, Archibald and Barton) and two half-sisters (Mattie Pearl and Jessie Gertrude).Aunt Della’s father was James Madison Fulks. His first wife was Peremelia Jane Frizzell and his second wife was Rebecca Josephine Drake.Uncle Jim was in the 4th TN Cavalry, Company E.Company A (Bedford County boys) served as General Forrest’s excort company.Uncle Jim was with Forrest when they captured Streight at Cedar Bluff, AL after a three day and night running battle across Alabama. Its all in the Hoover’s Gap book.
Where do you live? I will be in Middle TN (Murfreesboro, Columbia, Manchester, McMinnville, Tellahoma, etc) doing some book signing after the Hoover’s Gap book come out. They have some of the Liberty Gap and Chaffin books at Bell Buckle, TN. The Liberty Gap book has the Fulks’ in it and also has details of the Battle at Liberty Gap, where you used to live. Hope I have answered your questions.Have you seen Anjou Was Their Land?
Anjou Was Their Land
They say Virginia was their (Fulk/ Foolk/Foulques/ Fowke/ Fowlkes/ Foulks/ Folks/ Fulks/ Fults/ Fultz) home. How could that be?Their land was in Anjou. That was their land from 800 to 1213 AD.Virginia was their home but they built their castles and cathedrals in Anjou, Brittany, England, Maine, Normandy and in the Holy Land.Fulk, Bishop of Reims, was the most popular and powerful bishop of his time. His involvement in politics cost him his head; on June 17, 900 he was assassinated by Baldwin II of Flanders.
They say Virginia was their home, but they flew their flag (Red, two gold lions at pass guard) over their Castles, their fortress and their land for 400 years.Their flag still fly over the land of Normandy as its regional flag.Rouen was the Capital but Caen was where Thomas, the son of Sir Richard Fowke meet his cousin, William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, to go intoEngland in 1066.After they conquered England, they built a castle in Londontown.About 500 years later, Guy Fowke/Fakes was held and lost his head in the castle they built in Londontown for leading a resistance against the King.Old Virginia may have been their home, but Anjou was their land.
They say Virginia was their home, but they ruled over their lands from the castles they built atAngers, Caen, Le Mans, London and Jerusalem. The castle at Angers, they built on the banks of the Lorie; from there they reigned over their subject of Anjou. In 1128 Fulk V went to Jerusalem to become King.He left his sixteen year old son, Geoffrey IV, to reign over Anjou in his stead. And in 1132, the castle at Angers where Geoffrey reigned, burned downand Geoffrey built another castle which he completed in 1137.It still stands to this day.For a picture of the castle, see the Chaffin or Hoover’s Gap books. You may say Virginia was their home but Anjou was their land.
Old Virginia may be their home but Anjou was their land. From Pollyanna Olivia Fults to Sir Richard Fowke, Duke of Brittany, whose son, Sir Thomas, went into England with William the Conqueror in 1066, is thirty four generations. From Sir Richard Fowke to To William Foulks who left England in 1620 and came to Jamestown, Virginia was twenty three generations; and from William Foulks to Archibald Fowlkes/Foulks Sr., son of Daniel Folks, who married Letty Rollins, the daughter of John Rawling/Rawlins, February 5, 1796 in Charlotte County, Virginia, was four generations. From Archibald Fowlkes/Fulks/Fults Sr., and Letty Rollins/Rawlins who came to New Middleton, Smith County, Tennessee in 1807, to Maryanne Olivia Fults, my granddaughter, born in Cherokee, AL on July 27, 1994, my father, Virnie Lee Fults’ 90th birthday, is thirty four generations.Old Virginia and Tennessee may have been their home but Anjou was their land.
