Johannes Voltz showed up in Augusta Co., VA in 1758 when a John Fulse served in the Augusta militia. In 1764 a person by thename of John Fuls was given a land grant of 420 acres of what was the original Maxwell grant. His will in Rockingham Co., VA is dated 1806.
NO ONE KNOWS WHERE HE AND HIS WIFE CAME FROM.
They are not the Johannes Voltz and his wife Anna Catharina Zollhöferin of Lancaster Co., PA.That Johannes and his wife stayed in PA with their children Christian, Bernhardt and Elisabeth Barbara.Anyone willing to read the records of Trinity Lutheran Church can follow their attendance at church from their marriage in 1751 through the 1780s.I actually posted some of the entries on the Fultz forum some time ago.In fact, you will see a discussion on the topic, with comments by Prof. Daniel Bly, of the history department of Bridgewater College, who is an expert on German and Swiss settlers in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia (2 books on the subject, a 3rd in the works).
Many people noted the similarity of names and thought they had traced the Virginia family back to Pennsylvania. They shared this MISinformation with others via FamilyTreeMaker, the LDS site, ancestry.com, and many other places on the internet. It has taken on a life of its own although it just isn't so.

Hopefully, someone will discover the origins of Johannes and Catharina of Virginia so that the massive job of correcting all these errors may begin.
