John Furman - 1819 Light Artillery
I am an antique dealer and collector that specializes in paper items.I recently purchased an original muster roll for Captain William F. Hobart's Company of US Regiment of Light Artillery for the period of March and April, 1819.It contains 65 names of officers, musicians, artificers and Matross's. By the dictionary, a matross is a gunner or a gunner's mate; one of the soldiers in a train of artillery, who assisted the gunners in loading, firing, and sponging the guns.One of the people listed as a matross is John Furman.

The roll is signed by Captain Hobart on the back and Abraham Eustis, Lieutenant Colonel.It was signed "at Fort Warren in the Harbour of Boston".
