Hello Suzanne: I'm delighted to get your email.Maybe we can shed some light on this matter together. My Aunt Mildred was my father's sister.Your mother Julie might remember talking about her brothers the "twins" as they were referred to, since they were fraternal twins. There names were John and George. I have some family history regarding Mildred in front of me but my father who was devoted to his ancestory has a more completed geneological list of the Quinn's that I can obtain for you.My Dad passed away 5 years ago at the age of 70.He would be thrilled to have made this connection, if indeed we are talking about the same Mildred Quinn. I can tell you this. Mildred was born on July 28th, 1923.She had another sister born around 1925 named Phyllis, but she died of Scarlet Fever around 10 months old. Then my Dad (George) and his twin brother (John) were born on February 5th 1928. In 1940 when children were being evacuated during the War Mildred (almost 17) stayed with her parents while my Dad and brother went into the country. Mildred began work as a Short-hand typist in Shortt & Harlands Aircraft Head Office doing exceedingly well, after a few year there she became a secretary in an office of the Parliament buildings in Belfast. She was also a very accomplished pianist. She, however, was unhappy at home. Her father's domination and strictness was too much for her to handle so she joined the Army.It is here that she met I think, your grandfather Ray Furner. They were married and lived in a Flat (apartment) near his parents home in Croydon. My Dad had very little contact with her after this point.Although he did know that she had around 4 children. They believed that she was divorced, but were never certain. It would be great to find the missing pieces. If this is your grandmother. Then I would love to hear the rest of the story up to now.I can tell you that my Dad loved Mildred dearly, but she didn't seem to want much to do with the family. It's kinda sad, and I always felt sorry for my Dad.I'd love to know about your Mum and when did Mildred leave, and why did she leave?where did she go?What about your grandfather? etc. Looking forward to your reply.Paula Quinn from Canda.
