So far in my search for Gaddie clues in Scotland and America I have concluded that Geddie & Gaddie are spelled interchangably.
There is no distinction between the names, and I have found no evidence in historical or legal records to prove a distinction made.
They spelled their surname both ways.
Most people in the early days did not know how to spell their names, and with the different accents and spellings of old and new countries, the spelling of names did not have a formed style when these immigrants arrived in the America's. There was no purpose to serve in spelling these immigrants names precisely.
The spelling of names was still evolving due to differences in the written languages of the different countries involved.
