Dr. Gagel,
I am most impressed by your knowledge of the Gagel lineage. There are really so few Gagels, I am getting the impression that most who can trace their families to the areas of Germany that you mention must have some relation.
I have traced my line to Danzig, Germany ( now Gdansk, Poland)in about 1840 or so, but that does not coincide with the origins of any other Gagel family that I have seen. My line migrated to Bucharest, (apparently via Transylvania, Hungary) and then to the U.S. in 1898. They were Lutherans. They owned bakeries in Bucharest, and had chemists among them, who owned a fur dyeing business in N.Y.
But back to Danzig. Maybe you could offer a suggestion about how to take the research a step further back in time, or a hypothisis about how they may have ended up in Danzig at that time in history.
Thanks, and keep up the good work!
James Gagel
