I have census information and obituaries for Gahagan/Gahagen family members that settled in Mower County, MN.Owen GAHAGAN, Austin, MN, per his obituary in the Mower County Transcript of We. March 4, 1908 Page 2 Column 1 "Owen Gahagan, who lived on S. River street, was missing last week from Tuesday evening until Friday morning, when his body was found in the Cedar river, just above Lafayette park, in the south part of this city.Possibly he tried to dross the Great Western bidge and fell off. Some think that from the position the bod was in near the bank and with mud on the feet and legs that he lost his way and waded in from the shore. The body ws discovered by Walter Chapman who was searching with the sheriff, the chief of police and others.Gahagan was born in Galloway, Ireland, in 1847.He came to Ripon, Wis., whe a young man and later to Minnesota. He leaves a widow and seven children. He was a member of the Court of Honor.Funeral services were held in the Catholic church Monday forenoon.Interment in the Catholic cemetery."The cemetery is Calvary Cemetery in Austin, MN.
Owen Gahagan was married to my great grandmother's sister, Mary (Donahue) Gilligan. It appears that Mary may have been her mother's daughter by a marriage prior to her Gilligan marriage as Mary's maiden name was Donahue.
Owen and Mary had several children.I have been in contact with a grandson/great grandson who is still living. There is another Gahagan family, John Gahagan b. 1830 d. 1895 and his wife Bridget and their children also buried in the same cemetery.I do not know the relationship.
Additionally, I have some census pages for a Cornelius Gahagan in Austin Township, Mower County from 1900.He was born c. 1865 from what I can tell in Minnesota. His parents were from Ireland. There is also a Connor Gahagan and his wife Catherine in Fillmoor County MN.
