Sarah Ann Ganie or Gainey was my Great Grandmother. She married William P. Scruggs on 29JUl1878. They had six children Nancy Ann Elizabeth (Lizzie), William Benjamin (Bill), Mary Susan Evelyn (Elvie), Jimmie, Clidia (clyde) Odell, and Horace. My Grandfather was William.Sarah (Sallie) had siblings named Mollie, Elizabeth (Betty), Anthony (Antney), and Levie.Mollie married Mercer Smith and Betty married A. B. Long, Anthony married Alma Scruggs and Levie died as a young child.Anthony and Alma had a child named Nellie. She was living in southern Georgia when I interviewed her about 7 or 8 years ago.She has since passed away.As you said, Sarah is buried in Butler county. There is a cemetery around Evergreen that most of the Longs are buied in including Horace Scruggs. This is about all that I have been able to find out on the them.I have found their name spelled several different ways, Ganie, Gainey, Gany, Gainy and probably other ways.I have some census records on them but the birthplace data conflicts from one census to another.I personally think that it had something to do with the indian hertage.I believe they were afraid of another TRAIL OF TEARS.I have heard the names Olford and Alford mentioned but I have not found anything to substantiate them.It is my understanding that they grew up aroung Deer Range, ALabama but I have been unable to find them there.I would appreciate any information that you might have that could glue any of this together.I have been searching for them for at least 10 years, maybe longer.Would love to hear from you.
