Does anyone know of any connection with the Gains family & the Belcher family.I have a Gaines Belcher, who is possibly known by General Belcher, of Lee Co, Va & later of Boyd Co. Ky?Someone told me he could be named after a member of the Gains family, so I am trying anything at this point. This is the message I have posted on the Belcher forum:
I'm looking for information on the Thomas & Sarah Belcher first found in Lee Co, Va in the 1850 census. He was born in Tn & is 23 years old. The family listed before Thomas is a Sarah Belcher, age 50 b.Va, with marhta 32, Simeon 18, & Alsay 82. The family listed after Thomas & Sarah is Elizabeth Belcher 36 b.Tn, Wiley 18, Stokley 16, Milton 14, Matilda 12, Cynthia 10, David 8, Arthur 6, Martha 4, Mary 2. Are these families related? In 1860 Thomas & Sarah have the following children: GENERAL G. 9, Didama 8, Morning 3. I am wondering if this GENERAL G. is the GAINES Belcher I have been looking for? He is found in 1870 Boyd Co, Ky as GAINES Belcher 20 b.Va; 1880 Boyd Co, Ky as GAINES Belcher 29 b.Tn, wife Susan 44, Mahala 14, Richard 8, Thomas 6. 1900 Greenup Co, Ky as GAINES G. Belcher 49, b.July 1850 Tn, with Susan 65, Lucinda Sexton 41, Gaines (not sure if he is a Belcher or Sexton). In 1910 Greenup Co, Ky. Gains Belcher 60 b.Tn, with 2nd wife Scinderella 52, Gains 15. In 1920 Scioto Co, Oh he is listed as GENERAL G. 68 b.Va, with Cinderella 61. I am also wondering if Lucinda & Cinderella are the same person. GAINES Belcher is my son-in-law's greatgreat grandfather. Anybody with anything to share on these families, please do so, either here or email me directly. Thanks a bunch in advance.
