Since posting to you Larry, I have a distant Cousin who had some of the info on a line of a JOHN ROGERS b. 1750 AA Co. MD. and wife SUSANNA GASSAWAY b. abt. 1750 AA CO. MD.They had several children ( 4 that I have found ) and one was a daughter named CATHERINE ROGERS who some have listed being born abt. 1774 in SC.Catherine ROGERS b. 1774 SC md. MORDECAI IMES and their daughter ELIZA IMES b. abt. 1803 NC md. John B. Dunn in Logan Co. KY.Some have listed that Catherine Rogers also had a brother named SAMUEL ROGERS b. 1780 SC.
SAMUEL ROGERS b. 1780 SC ( also son of this JOHN ROGERS b.and wife SUSANNA GASSAWAY both b. 1750 AA CO. MD ) had married a MARY WILLIAMS and they had a son named JAMES GASSAWAY ( GASAWAY ) ROGERS who married a NANCY FIELDS.That hit a strong note with me, as my direct line in the ROGERS family is from my G. Grandmother SIDY ( SIDNEY ) FIELDS ROGERS.Her parents are ALEXANDER FIELDS and SARAH UNKNOWN of NC but died in CARROLL CO. TN.ALEXANDER FIELDS is from a long line of ANSON CO. NC FIELDS that traced back into Onslow Co. NC and from there back through BARBADOS to ENGLAND and FRANCE.I have to wonder as the name of NANCY FIELDS as the wife of this JAMES GASSAWY ROGERS had parents listed being SAMEUL FIELDS and NANCY FIELDS.The name of SAMUEL FIELDS is the first in the line of my Fields prior to 1666 in England. The second is a SAMUEL FIELDS as well and my line continues with the 2nd Samuel Fields having son RICHARD FIELDS etc. down to my own JAMES FIELDS the father of our ALEXANDER FIELDS.
Not only do I have FIELDS in my ROGERS lines but they also are in my JULIAN lines that connected to the MURRAY lines that married into my RICHESIN/ROGERS lines. Both my G. Grandmothers had FIELDS in their lines with Sidy being a direct line of FIELDS and MELINDA E. MURRAY RICHESIN being a cousin of the JULIANS who md. FIELDS in ROWAN CO. NC.
Now all this might be a coincidence, but I can't help but wonder as we have the same naming patterns as these GAITHERS, BURGESS lines in AA Co. MD and into NC, and then we find that there is connection to the FIELD name, and it most likely will trace back from this NANCY FIELDS ROGERS who md. JAMES GASSAWAY ROGERS to NC.NANCY FIELDS also repeats just as SAMUEL FIELDS does in our FIELDS Genealogy in the ROGERS lines in Anson/Montgomery Co's NC.
As these families of mine from NC had all migrated together over the generations from NC to TN to AR, it was less than amazing then when I found that CATHERINE ROGERS who was b. 1774 SC ( d/o John Rogers & Susanna GASSAWAY ROGERS of AA CO. MD ) had a brother SAMUEL ROGERS b. 1780 SC who had a daughter MARTHA ANN ROGERS b. 1801 who died 1876 in NEWTON CO. AR just a few miles from where our own GREEN D. BERRY ROGERS and SIDY FIELDS died in AUG. 1879 and buried with my other G. Grandmother Melinda E. Murray Richesin and husband Thomas H. Richesin in the Bellefonte, Boone Co. AR Cemetery.Coincidental, could be, but what a coincidence if it is.OUR GREEN BERRY, BASIL's, ZACHARIAH ROGERS are looking more and more like they have some unknown connection to the BURGESS and GAITHER lines and possibly the ROGERS lines of AA CO. MD as well.
Possibly it is through the UNKNOWN wife of our JAMES ROGERS, Jr. b. abt. 1746 Anson Co. NC.James Rogers, Jr. had a son some believe named ZACHARIAH ROGERS b. bet. 1770-1780 and of course he had a son named SAMUEL ROGERS who is mentioned in his 1837 ROWAN CO. NC WILL along with an ALAN ROGERS who was to inherit if anything happened to SAMUEL.Since SAMUEL is a name within the AA CO. MD family of ROGERS, is this yet another coincidence ?With our William L. Rogers b. 1770 NC ( also a son of JAMES ROGERS JR. and Unknown wife ) naming his son BASIL ROGERS b. 1794 NC and then BASIL ROGERS b. 1794 naming a son GREEN BERRRY ROGERS, b. 1825 TN, is this a family carrying on the names within the GAITHER line, or just yet another coincidence.
WISH ME LUCK, as I just found more on all this.If anyone has more information for me, please post and I will try to follow it up.WILLIAM L. ROGERS b. 1770 MONTGOMERY CO. NC had a wife named NANCY UNKNOWN ( Some listed her as CHEATHAM but it is unverified ).However, the incorrect data on our WILLIAM L. ROGERS in NC listed him being WILLIAM M. ROGERS b. 1770 Montgomery Co. NC who had wife BARBARA BURGESS b. 1775 ROWAN CO. NC the daughter of REUBEN BURGESS of ROWAN CO. NC ( that is not correct either per MICHAEL BURGESS the author of "HOUSE OF BURGESS " but the incorrect data in Stanly Co. NC not only had Barbara Burgess listed as the wife of WILLIAM M. ROGERS but that their son was BASIL ROGERS b. abt. 1796 NC.We now know from verfied records that BASIL ROGERS was b. abt. 1794 MONTGOMERY CO. NC and his father was listed as WILlIAM L. ROGERS on the CARROLL CO. TN Land deeds. We have submitted verified information from the TN Records to the ROGERS files in STANLY CO. NC LIBRARY in ALBERMARLE, where our WILLIAM L. ROGERS and son BASIL ROGERS had resided up until about 1823 when William Rogers sold his land to MATHIAS BARRINGER on FEB. 18, 1823, then William Rogers and his large extended family with other NC families moved to Carroll Co. TN, where William L. Rogers died in 1842 Carroll Co. TN and is buried in OLD PISGAH CEMETERY with his wife NANCY ROGERS.
