Since I posted the message above, I have found out more:My great-grandmother's step father was James E. Gaither who married her mother Mary A. Cook Nov. 20, 1853 in Talladage County, Alabama (marriage performed by Justice of the Peace, James L. Barnhill, Surety Bond signed Nov 18, 1853). This is from "Alabama Marriage Collection 1800-1869 on Ancestry.com.Both Mary and James had children from pervious marriages.Apparently my great-grandmother's siblings were Harriet, John, and Martha. James Gaither had children named Willis, Shadrick, Murtitia, James, and Mary. From certain genealogical records also on Ancestry.com, James's parents were Shadrack Gaither and wife Lucy Jeter. However, those records state that their son who married Mary Cook was not James E. Gaither, but William S. Gaither. Does anyone know anything about this family?Could you set me straight about Mary's husband with two different names?Did James die and Mary remarry his brother William?I would appreciate any help.Thanks.
