Hello, I read by chance your message posted on genforum.genealogy.com. My name is GALAN in France living in Paris and I know a little on GALAN history. This name is coming from the south of France near pyrenean moutains. there is a village called GALAN in this area, and probably GALAN names are coming from this village. An other possibility is a spanish origine, because there are a lot of GALAN in the spanish side of pyrenean moutains. May be it is possible to bend these two possibilities. My family was farmer people, just located 70 km west of the GALAN village. But now we spread all in France. This name is not so common in France. It is different of many others spelling ( GALANT, GALLAND) and they have no connections. I don't directly answer to your question but I hope it will be help you. D'ont hesitate to contact me if you have other informations. Sorry for my poor english.
