Am looking for info on Melanie Galarneau/Garneau, born circa Aug 1855 in Quebec (per census records); died Jan 4, 1921 Buffalo, NY (per newspaper obit).
She emigrated to the USA with her parents around 1865 (per census records). Don't have her father's name but her mother's name might be Bridget/Brigitte. She may also have a sister named Melvina (unless this is an alternate name for her). She may also have a sister married into the Bascum family as I have found old news paper articles about a Lewis Bascum in Batavia/Buffalo, NY area mentioning her husband as this individual's uncle - I have his side of the family and Bascum does not appear there.
She married Ephrem/Ephraim Prefontaine, b. Dec 17, 1853 in Upton, QC (son of Firmin Prefontaine & Mathilde Desautels), died April 23, 1936 (Buffalo (?), NY. She married circa 1880, possibly around Greenfield or Springfield, MA (where her husband's parents were living at the time) or around Portland, ME where Ephrem's sister Caroline Fortin was living or around Brattleboro, VT where his brother Horace Prefontaine was living.
Ephrem worked for the rail road system, possibly as a contractor building/installing railway lines. For the first years of their mariage they moved around a lot as their children were all born in different states, spending 18 years in Batavia, NY before finally moving to Buffalo, NY.
The 5 children for Melanie Galarneau/Garneau & Ephrem/Ephriam Prefontaine are:
1. Cora Margaret(Marguerite?) - born in Vermont 2. Edmond Francis (Francois?) - born in Quebec or Massachusetts (census records show both) 3. John (Jack) Michael (Jean Michel?) - born Delaware 4. Priscilla - born Illinois 5. Caroline (Carolyn)(Carrie) - born New York
