Hi Julie
Your information is really interesting. I would love to claim Hugh, however I have Patrick's parents as William and Bridget (Moy) from Donegal. He is certainly about the right age though. Perhaps they were cousins? At this point in time (& I know things change easily in family histories!), I have Patrick's siblings as: Maurice (c1849-1919), Mary (c1853-1925), and John (c1855-1907).
Maurice and Mary came out together in 1881 on the Blairgowrie, but I've been unable to find John's shipping records. I had a quick look on the NSW Records site - Hugh aged 22, Mary aged 22, Patrick aged 21 immigrated via Peterborough in 1882 under surname of Gallon...does this tally with your records? This is probably 'your' Hugh.
Coincidentally, my mother's father (William Gallen) also lived in Balmain. There must have been a few Gallens around there! Also my mother has mentioned a Hugh Gallen that lived with her grandmother (Annie Gallen c.1863-1943)& her Uncle Anthony (1900-1958) on Annie's farm at Dunoon around Lismore. Mum doesn't know where Hugh "fitted" into the family.
Does any of this sound familiar to you at all?
Feel free to email me...
Regards
Brenda
