Since my previous posting I have found the following information regarding Jacob Gallion. He was born November of 1821 (per 1900 census). He served in the Civil Warin Co. E, 12th Missouri Cavalry (thank you , Leatrice for the info!). He enlisted as a private, but was sworn as a veterinary surgeon in 1865 (microfilm of Civil War records). Jacob and Mariah Kuhn had the following children (from 1850 census, Fairfiled, Butler Co., OH and 1860 census Tuscola, Douglas Co., IL – I still haven’t found him in an 1870 census): Henry B., b. about 1845; Frances C. (female), b. about 1849; Hulda, b. about 1850; Joan, b. about 1853; Sarah, b. about 1854; Benjamin, b. about 1856; and Jeremiah E., b. Sept. 1859. Jacob applied for a Civil War Pension and gave his parents’ names as John Gallion and Jennet Hays (again thanks to Leatrice). He died 10 April 1909 and is buried in Leavenworth National Cemetery in Levenworth, KS. In the 1900 census, Jacob is living alone in Nodaway Co., MO (his son Jeremiah is in the same county) and he gives the birthplace of both his mother and father as PA (not Prussia and VA as it is in 1880).
I don’t have any information regarding Jacob’s siblings or grandparents or his wife's (Mariah Kuhn) family.
I hope this will help clarify things and possibly help others to make a connection.
