I believe the information was written in 1945.It is very similar to information about the Gallion Family in the book, Holmes County, Ohio to 1985 (published 1985)--on page 46.The book is out of print but a copy of it is available in the Holmes County Library in Millersburg, Ohio. The information in the book is almost identical to that in your letter and is cited as written by Grace Lewis in 1945.
The Holmes County, Ohio to 1985 book also has other information about the Lewis Family on page 244 -- it was written by Lucille Lowe.I believe she is the daughter of Grace Mitten Lewis (husband's name - Don Lowe)
William Jackson Gallion (grandfather of Grace Mitten Lewis) actually had two brothers -- Elijah who moved to Iowa before the Civil War and joined the Union Army in Iowa and my grandfather (Thomas Walker Gallion) who lied about his age and joined the Union army in Ohio. After the war he migrated to Iowa where his brother lived and his Uncle Elijah Wagers.Several years later he moved his family to Kansas where he homestead in Gove County, Kansas.I grew up on the Gallion homestead and inherited the family pictures from my Mother. For the last year I have been trying to update the family genealogy. While going through pictures, I found some of Julia Mitten Gallion and my Grandmother Gallion taken in Kansas.I also have a family portrait of a large family that I now think is William Jackson Gallion and his children.Do any of you have family portraits of that familiy that might help in my identification?
I would be interested in sharing any information. My information is still incomplete on the William Jackson family.
