Albany (Ga.) News, Thursday, July 15, 1880: "Yesterday afternoon about 5 o'clock, while the storm was raging, Mr. G. B. Mask, Section Master on the S. W. R. R., and his corps of workmen, had sheltered themselves in Kinchafoonee Bridge. A sudden stroke of lightning flashed and sent to eternity Mr. Mask, an honest, hard working, faithful man. One of the colored laborers was also struck, but not seriously hurt. The bridge was badly damaged."
