Thomas Gascoigne was christened in Aberfords, Yorkshire, Eng. in 1601.His mother was Anne Hobbes who had been married first to a Mompesson from Wiltshire, Wessex, Eng.His father was Henry Gascoigne who was from Yorkshire. They married in the Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire.
It appears that the family of Henry Gascoigne went back to live in Yorkshire.Young Thomas Gascoigne sailed on the BONA NOVA to Jamestowne in 1619.He apparently returned to England after the 1624 census of the living and dead taken after the 1622 Jamestowne massacre.
We next find Thomas Gascoigne in Accomack Co. VA in 1635 at court asking land for his transportation of 6 persons to the colony of VA.The names of those persons were:
1. Thomas Gascoigne/Gaskins for himself 50 acs. 2. Josias GAMBLING for 50 acs. (It has been the opinion of researchers that this was the father-in-law of Thomas.) 3.Alice Gascoigne/Gaskins for 50 acs.(She is going to be his dau.) 4. Mary Gaskins for 50 acs.(Researchers believe she was a dau.) 5.Josias Gaskins for 50 acs.(Believed to be his son named for his grandfather-Josias Gambling.) 6.Elizabeth Gaskins for 50 acs.(Most believe that she was Thomas' wife and the dau of Josias Gambling.
I have seen no data for the Gamblings outside of this transportation to VA.Is there any data in Wiltshire which matches a Josiah Gambling and a dau named Elizabeth in this time period?
