The settlement on the enoree river is against all the data that I have read and heard passed down through the years. What I have came to believe is that John and his two brothers were the first to arrive in the part of the piedmont which included all of Anderson county, Oconee, Pickens and the lower section of Greenville county. In other words he owned all of that. There home place was somewhere around the Honea Path / Williamston area. John owned all this after his brothers left for Texas. His own son James drew up the plans for the city of Anderson (the orginal plans are in the state archives in Columbia). John donated the land to get people to move into this part of the country. It is said that John owned a store and graniery. Where he came from I have no ideal. Would love to find out. Most people have us comming from Va..
