Thomas R. Gambrell, MD, who published an excellent book in 2001 titled "An ancestral history, 8 BC to 1986: a life and times study of the Allerton, Appling, Barrow, Brewster, Brooke, Ficke, Gambrell, Mattison, Mooney, Newton, Petit, Rheinlander, Schwerdtfeger, Spivey, Trammel, Van Rennselaer, and Wyatt families in Europe", is about to go to press with a comprehensive update.
I was very impressed with the first book, a limited edition published by Gateway Press, affiliated with Genealogical Publishing Company of Baltimore, and thought I'd take the opportunity to help him spread the word about this 300-page hardcover follow-up edition to make sure he orders enough copies.
Prominent in the more than 100 families covered and indexed are Allerton, Appling, Barrow, Brewster, Bruton, Colley, Ferrell, Ficke, Fraser, Gambrell, Hobbs, Holloway, Knight, Mattison/Maddyson, Mooney, Newton, Petit/Perteet, Rheinlander, Schwerdtfeger, Seward, Spivey, Standley, Trammell, Willoughby, and Wyatt. For example, the history covers some 400 years for Gambrell; about 300 years for Wyatt and Appling; 250 years for Rheinlander and Ficke; and about 200 years for Spivey, Mooney, and Mattison.
