I have a letter from Mary Gambrell, wife of J. B. Gambrell, to Melissa Funk (my relative) while Mary was in Oxford, MS in 1876.Mary writes that she is taking advantage of Newell's letter to Nep (sister of Melissa) to enclose her letter.Mary is about thirty five years old at this time and she mentions her three oldest children: Roderick,Percy and Eric.Roderick is about ten years old so I'm sure Newell is not one of her children.
By 1880, this Gambrell family is in Clinton, MS and J. B. Gambrell's mother (Jane, w/o Joel B. Gambrell) is living with them.I do not know if Jane was with them in Oxford and I can not make any connection with her and the name Newell.I am assuming that Newell was living with them in Oxford but I don't know who she is. (Mary refers to Newell as "her".
