I am looking for the parents of my 4x greatgrandparents:
James GAMMILL, b. 30 Sep 1797,TN; d.22 Apr 1874, Buck Prairie Twp, Marionville, Lawrence County, Missouri.
Sarah (maiden name unknown),b. 27 Nov 1799, NC; d. 1 Aug 1885, Buck Prairie Twp, Marionville, Lawrence County, Missouri.
They are both buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Old Old Part, Marionville.
They lived in Tennessee, but purchased land in Buck Prairie Twp, Lawrence County, Missouri circa 1848.
The children I've found are: Charles Newton (my 3x greatgrandfather), Lucinda J., Sarah E., Talitha A., Elizabeth A., Harrit (or Harriet), Nancy C., Samuel Harrison, and Joseph J. They married into MALLARD, MAXWELL, SHOOK, STEWARD, WILKS, and ROARK families.
Charles Newton GAMMILL was born 25 Oct 1824 in Bedford County, Tennessee. He appears to be the eldest child (that I have found).
James and Sarah were married, then, earlier than 1824. I find only one record of a James GAMMILL marrying in Tennessee in the time frame:
James GAMMILL married Sally WHITES on 22 Oct 1818 in Davidson County, Tennessee (Tennessee Marriages, 1787-1866, genealogy.com).
I don't have any record that Sarah is Sally WHITES, but I know that Sally was often a nickname for Sarah. I have also found that a Jane WHITIS married an Andrew Gammill, probably in North Carolina. It seems that WHITIS/WHITES is a changed spelling from the name WHITEHURST.
I've been looking on Ancestry, Rootsweb, FamilySearch, Genealogy.com, and googling for James Gammill's parents and Sally Whites.
From a member of mailing list for Lawrence County, Missouri I was given James and Sarah's exact birth and death dates, which I thought would be a huge help in identifying the parents and Sarah's maiden name, but I still haven't made headway on it.Is there anyone on this genforum list who has further information on James GAMMILL and his wife Sarah? All info appreciated.
