Here's what I have: Francis Ganus married G.W.Hataway Feb 3, 1881 in Pike Co AL. The bondsmen were G. W. Hataway and W. J. Ganus(who was the oldest son of Stephen Ganus of Pike Co. She was a sister to W(illaim) J(ackson) who was called Jackson. Francis was born on Dec 19, 1855 there in Pike Co. according to Stephen Ganus's family Bible. Her full name was Francis Earline Ganus.
Then George W married Fannie Ganus on Aug 4, 1889 in Brundige(not far from the county seat, Troy). Bondsmen were George W Hataway and a J D Gafford(I do not know who he is, do you?).
A Benjamin Blackman had 40 acres due north bordering Stephen Ganus's property(240 acres). I have not yet searched for his family members. W.J. Ganus, Francis's brother, married a M.F.Blackman a year after she married on Aug. 7, 1882. The bondsmen were W.J. Ganus and a J.T. Blackman. There was also a marriage of a PJR Minty Blackman to T B Ganus, son of Stephen Ganus on Oct. 30, 1879(which son was underage and required permission granted by Stephen). Something must have happened to TB Ganus because just a few months later she is listed as living with Stephen's family in the 1880 censu as a daughter-in-law. TB is nowhere to be found.
Then on June 28, 1885, "Minty" marries again. This time it is to William H Register. Bondsmen are W H Register and a B T Blackman. Her full name is listed on the license as Polly June Armistus Ganus. I recently spoke to an older lady, Mrs Davis in Troy who is a decendant of that union. She told me intersting stories and I can let you know how to reach her if you are intersted.
Hope this helps you. Photcopies of the microfilmed marriage licenses can be obtained from the public library in Troy. Let me know if you want to know how.
My Reply: This Francis Ganus and George Washington Hataway are my ggrandparents! According to the Alabama marriage book index, George married Francis GANUS on Feb 3, 1881 and then he married Fannie GANUS on Aug 4,1889 and then he married Martha F Blackman (called Fannie also) by 1900 he's on the 1900 census with Martha F. Blackman. I noticed the one Ganus brother married M F Blackman and wonder if this is the same third wife of George? George outlived three wives. My aunt is the one who told me about them before I started searching for them. She also told me that the Hataway women were indian, and one of them was suppose to be a descendant of the Chief RedWing, and someone in the family lines is suppose to have the info, but she wasn't sure who, said Chickasaw. On my Nelson side she said it was the men who were indian and some did marry indian women. (she said, they were the 'fighting indians') I laughed so hard I nearly cried just the way she said it, she's 85 now but smart as whip'.
Here's the info in the Marriage Index: 2. G.W. HATAWAY to Frances Ganus - Feb. 3, 1881 - Book 9 - Page 234 (after she died he married Fannie Ganus below and outlived three wives; his third wife was a BLACKMAN/BLACKMON, Martha) 3. George W. HATAWAY to Fannie Ganus - Aug. 4, 1889 - Book 11 - Page 401
