I was just reviewing the postings by Sue Barr, Jim Gardner, Jonathan Wert, and others regarding the family of John Garman, 1760-1822, and Barbara (Gless?), 1758-1835, of Lancaster Co./Dauphin Co., PA. They were buried at Shoop's Church in Lower Paxton Township.
I see that John and Barbara Garman had a daughter, Magdalena Garman. My ancestor, Maria Magdalena (Mary) German/Garman, born Feb. 5, 1792, married John "Frederick" Shoop of Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County. Mary's brother was Jacob German/Garman, who was the co-executor of Frederick Shoop's will in 1835. A George and Margaret German/Garman were sponsors at the baptism of one of Mary and Frederick Shoop's children at Shoop's Lutheran and Reformed Church in 1812. Maria Magdalena and Frederick were buried in Shoop's Cemetery. Was Maria Magdalena, John and Barbara's daughter?Who were George and Margaret Garman?
Also, Maria Magdalena and Frederick Shoop's son, Samuel F. Shoop, 1818-1895, married Mary Ann ("Polly") Garman/German. They are also my ancestors. They lived in Susquehanna Township near/in Harrisburg in 1850.Mary Ann died in about 1853; she was probably in her 30's at the time of her death. They had 5 children. Was Mary Ann the daughter of John Garman, 1778-1866, who married Elizabeth Barringer (or Wallower? per Sue Barr's posting of June 4, 2004 if I read it correctly)?
I'm very interested in learning about the Garman families. Did the elder John and Barbara Garman, and John Garman, Jr., and Elizabeth have wills that identified their children?Thank you.
