Virginia Elizabeth Christian Garman, 89, of Johnson City, Washington Co TN, died Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Lakebridge Healthcare Center.
She was born November 17, 1921, a native of Hawkins Co TN, daughter of the late James Wiley and Lucy Ella Hutchins Christian. She was a winding operator for Burlington Mills for 17 years. Virginia was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a part of the Holston Conference of Children’s Ministries for 12 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William D. Garman, in 2009; four sisters, Rita Davis, Ina Francisco, Gladys Gaddis, and Evelyn H. Christian; and two brothers, Ralph Christian and Lyle Christian.
Virginia was known for her caring spirit, her hospitality in her home and her handmade quilts. Her love of children was evident in each church that she and Rev. W. D. served.
Survivors include two foster children, Bobby Baker, of Blountville, TN, and Judy Baker Chandler, of Tunnel Hill, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express thanks to the Lakebridge Healthcare staff for their loving care and the many friends who made so many faithful visits.
A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, January 2, 2011, at 7 p.m., in the North Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, under the direction of Rev. Dr. James Bennett and Rev. Jeremy Dykes.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m., until time of service at 7 p.m.
A committal service will be conducted on Monday, January 3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her nephews. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
