Of course you can contact Doug, the more people hellping withis the better. However I am not convinced this is the same line, although they could obviously be related. To help to push the project along here is the second part of my conclusions. To date the whole story runs to 5 parts. I like to keep the posts fairly short to avoid information overload.
The Cumbria Record Office, Kendal holds a series of deeds relating to Kirkby Lonsdale under the reference WD WHELP.
Much of the Family Tree of Mabell’s immediate family is derived from the contents of the 1726 will of William Garnett of Barbon, given at WD WHELP/7/T 11-12. According to the Deed WD WHELP/7/T 21 this will is dated 12 June 1726 and proved (Archdeaconry of Richmond) 25 October 1726. Initial conclusions to be drawn from this will include the following: • William had at least two brothers: Thomas (see below) and John. • William had at least two brothers-in-law: William Whiteside of Lancaster and Richard Hodgson of Dent. Therefore William had at least two sisters. • Thomas, brother of William, had at least two sons: Edmond and Christopher. According to the Kirkby Lonsdale BTs Christopher was baptised there on 13 April 1695, the son of Thomas Garnett of Mansergh. • Thomas had at least two daughters: Mabell wife of Edward Willan and Christabell wife of Robert Holme. • I believe that all of these Garnett families lived in Mansergh. • Edmond Garnett of Kirkby Lonsdale, father of William's godson Samuel, is NOT the same person as William's nephew, main beneficiary and executor of the same name. • Baptisms for all four of the children of Richard Hodgson (or Hodshon) are given in the Dent PRs: Marmaduke (20 June 1681), Isabell (30 December 1682), Thomas (22 March 1684/5) and Mabell (10 March 1688/9). It is possible that there might be a marriage at KL some time around 1680. Residences and occupations of many of the beneficiaries are given in Quitclaims concerning the provisions of the will in the WD WHELP series of Deeds. These can be summarised as: • WD WHELP/7/T 13 John Dodgshon of Holme in Middleton, shoemaker and Robert Holme of Becke foot in Barbon, yeoman and Christabell his wife • WD WHELP/7/T 14 William Glover of Old Town in Mansergh, yeoman and Alie, his wife • WD WHELP/7/T 17 Ralph Burton of Colme in Dent, co. York, yeoman and Isabell his wife, and George Witton of Gathrope in Dent, yeoman and Mabell, his wife • WD WHELP/7/T 18 Edward Willan of Nether Hall in Mansergh, yeoman and Mabell his wife, and Jane Townson and Christopher Garnett, both of Mansergh Hallhouses in Mansergh • WD WHELP/7/T 19 Richard Whiteside of Manchester, co. Lancashire, barber wige maker • WD WHELP/7/T 23 Thomas Hodgson of Burton Hill in Dent, co. York, yeoman and Marmaduke Hodgson of Upper Shadwell, co. Middlesex, gent • WD WHELP/7/T 24 Marmaduke Hodgson at London • WD WHELP/7/T 25 Ebenezer Whiteside of Lancaster, tailor Of these the most significant in terms of Mabell is WD WHELP/7/T 18 which shows that Jane Townson (sister-in-law of William) and Christopher Garnett (brother of Mabell) were resident at Mansergh Hall Houses, the residence given for Mabell in the Marriage License of 1712. From other sources in WD WHELP it appears that Thomas Garnett, father of Mabel, died between 1718 and 1726.
