Mary Garvey (sister of your John) was my husbands gt grandmother. She lived Bolton at the same time as John around 1870 ish. According to her wedding to Wm Field St Edmunds chapel (Grimes St Chapel) Bolton 2 Dec 1871 her father James Garvey was deceased but had been a gardener. Your John Garvey and Margaret Doyle were witnesses at the wedding. John was your ancestor and Margaret was either Ann's sister or mother. 1871 census 97 Gas St Bolton Margaret Doylehead48housekeeper born Bolton Margaretdaughter 18cotton throstle spinnerborn Bolton Markson15apprentice bricklayerborn Bolton Thomasson11apprentice stonemasonborn Bolton John Garvey son in law26 bricklayerborn Liverpool Ann Garveydaughter21born Bolton. When our Mary Garvey was married her address was 97 Gas St so she was living with Ann and John Doyle and Margaret Doyle!
Mary gave her place of birth for census' as Armagh Ireland. So I don't know why John said he was born Liverpool. If they were from Liverpool see another post I have put on this site for James Garvey. Could you let me know if you have any other details of where he was born. The family probably landed Liverpool when they came over to England from Armagh.
