I am seeking information on the family of my gggg grandfather Charles Gary (b 1760's)who migrated to Laurens Co SC when it was inhabited by Native Americans. He became good friends with the Coker family and Armstrong family who lived in the same area. He never married, had a child Cassandra by his friend Milley Coker, who I suspect is Mary, the child of Joseph and Mary Coker.(same age) He willed his whole estate to Milley as long as she did not marry. He mentions Cassandra as his natural daughter in the will. The will was dated Feb 24, 1805.Drury Coker (son of Joseph and Mary and his friend who married Charles' sister Elizabeth) and his brother David Gary are executors. Witnesses: John Armstrong, John Coker (brother to Drury) and William Gary. Appeared before the court: William Gary and John Armstrong. The will was approved Feb 3, 1806.
By 1782, Milley Coker was living in Montgomery Co NC (Tax List)I suspect she went there to have Cassandra. This is where she met the Sanders family who was living there at the time. My Moses Sanders married Priscilla Coker, daughter of Cassandra according to family history. According to one researcher Charles Gary was taken from the membership roll of Bush River Church because of all this and was only placed back on the roll after he made rectification through the will. I understand he is buried at Bush River. Any information about my Charles Gary from Laurens Co SC would be appreciated. He is not accepted by many Gary researchers as a part of the Gary Family of Newberry. I do not know/ This is the information I am trying to find. Regardless of what he did, he is a part of Colonial America, too. Thank you for any information.
