LOTEN EDGAR GASSETT, eldest son of GEORGE and MARY GASSETT, was born near Monticello, Jones County, Iowa, January 25, l849; died at the home of his brother, SAMUEL GASSETT, on Friday morning at ll:l5, March l6, l923, aged 74 years, l month and l9 days. In the spring of l853 he removed with his parents to Decatur County, Iowa, where they settled on a farm in Eden Township, where he attended the public schools and grew to manhood. Later he came to Leon and worked at the jeweler's trade, at which occupation he has worked faithfully for more than half a century, and is well-known throughout the county for his faithful workmanship. No doubt he has done some work for almost every home in the county.
He had been in declining health for some years, but was confined to his bed a little less than one month. He bore his affliction with that quiet and patient spirit which had ever characterized him through the years. All that loving hands and medical skill could do for him was done; which he appreciated and never uttered a murmur, but all was of no avail, and we are bereft of a dear brother. He was never married, but leaves to mourn his departure, one brother and three sisters, MRS. ADA RILAND, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; MRS. ELMA MORRILL, of Tecumseh, Nebraska; MRS. NORA EIKER, of Decatur, Iowa and SAMUEL GASSETT, of Leon, Iowa. All were at his bedside when he passed away except MRS. RILAND, who did not feel able to come. He also leaves four nephews and four nieces, besides many friends. We shall sadly miss him from his accustomed place, as we are left to mourn.
Dearest Brother, thou hast left us; And our loss we deeply feel, But 'tis God who has bereft us He can all our sorrows heal.
Funeral services were held at the Leon M.E. Church, Sunday afternoon, March l8th, conducted by Rev. J.E. Habliston. Interment in the family lot in Leon Cemetery. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A CARD -- We wish to extend our thanks and sincere appreciation for the kindnesses of neighbors and friends during the sickness and death of our dear brother.
MR. and MRS. SAM GASSETT, MRS. ELMA MORRILL, MRS. NORA EIKER.
