Hi,I don't know how they might connect, exactly, but my Jemima (Gately) Pitts (born c. 1801 N.C.) married Levi Pitts (b. 1790 S.C.) c. 1816 & was in Wayne Co., TN by 1838.She died there by 1870.Her daughter, my Elizabeth (Pitts) Rose told one of her grandchildren, with whom I spoke in the 1980's, that she was 1/4 Indian. She was tall, dark haired & eyed, slender and was very neat. Her one grandson, my William Allen Rose (whom I never met) was also tall, dark haired & eyed and looked "Indian" though most of his kids, including my Dad, didn't.
I don't know what tribe or how my Elizabeth (Pitts) Rose was 1/4 Indian but I suspect it's true based on the looks - high cheekbones, etc. Also I have a photo of one of Elizabeth's brothers - Solomon Pitts. He was dark, tall & wanted to be an Indian scout in the Civil War!
I just recently heard from Adonna Morgan who said that probably my Jemima (Gately) Pitts was a daughter of her John Gately's brother, Joseph Gately & Elizabeth Ragsdale.I don't know where the Indian comes in!!???If my Jemima's daughter was 1/4 Indian then probably one of Jemima's (or Levi's!) parents was full-blood Indian of some tribe.
I'd like to hear from you.I'm very curious about all of this!Joan Rose
