John P. Gately, My 1st cousins are Arthur and Lousie Gately. Their father Arthur Gately (approx. 1901) and a son of Matthew E.Gately (approx. 1865),was married to my Mother's sister, Alice McDevitt of Waltham. The Matthew that I am referring to, is listed in the 1910 United State Census. Matthew's wife is listed as Nellie G. Gately. Matthew E Jr.,William J, Arthur (my uncle by marriage)were the sons of Matthew and Nellie. There were two daughters, Mary and Catherine. Mary Gately married a Meade. Catherine married ?. Mary and Catherine lived on School Street in Waltham (across from the old Waltham High School) with their husbands. I attended several functions at Mary Gately Meade's home as a young girl. She was very kind and giving woman. As a child, I heard about the Gately Market. My uncle Arthur was a meat cutter by trade. The Matthew E. Gately Jr., brother to my uncle, and an uncle to my two cousins, lived and worked in South America. I believe he was working for a bank in Boston. He had a very good position and considered wealthy by my two cousins. My uncle Arthur re-married (twice)years after my aunt Alice died. There were no other off-springs. Uncle Arthur lost both legs from drinking and died in Waltham after marring wife number three. His daughter Louise Gately married a wonderful man from Waltham by the last name of Annunziata. They have raised their family in Woburn. His son Arthur is very happly married and lives in Maine. I sincerely hope this helps. Please pass it on to the other relatives.
