mother: JEMIMA MERCER (Messer) b. 1769-70 (prob)Orange Co NC d. * Sept 1805 Person Co. NC (a second source says she died "after 1820 Ky or TN"

Billy Thetford b.@ 1793 NC of James Thetford d. 05 Oct 1885 Jackson Co. Il. *Note: family lore in each case states Lucretia "Indian" but no one has found proof to date. My own family states that she was, indeed, "Indian".
Lucretia and Billy's children: John R. Thetford b. 1825 TNnever married, died in his 50s and buried near his mother at South County LIne Cemetery
Henry b. 1827-28 TN.M.Mariah Brandon, 11 chldrn.
Anderson b. 1832 TN.married several times, numerous chldn.
1826:Billy states to "Godspeed", a TN newsletter that he was one of first settlers in Jackson Co., Il. 1839: Billy and Lucretia move to Jackson Co. Il. 1840: Billy and Lucretia have a farm, Jackson Co., Il., records spell name Tedford 1850: still in Jackson Co. Il. with sons. Billy's brother James, 22yrs. also living with them 1880: Billy listed as blind and divorced from Lucretia 1885: Billy dies near his farm on Cane Creek, near Poplar Bluff, Mo. at 92-93 years but he gave earlier date of birth at times. His head stone reads 101 years. 1888: Lucretia Gately-Thetford dies @85 years "still very Indian looking and very pretty even in old age".
