I am trying to confirm the origins of the GAUDETTE spelling of the GAUDET surname. It seems to have occured after about 1786 in the region of Contrecoeur, Quebec. At that time there was a Francois Gaudet and his wife, Marie St-Germain. They had a son, Michel GAUDETTE who married Marie-Josephe Dupont. After that, the Gaudet spelling seems to become very common in the Quebec Area. does anyone have any further information about this?
