I recently obtained some copies of the original hand written survey records from Floyd Co.Ky Courthouse. I have also learned in these records Adam Gearheart John Gearheart,William Gearheart,Valentine (Robert Valentine)Gearheart, left their mark. The word "mark" or "marker" next to the name indicates that some type of marking possibly and x or other type marking was usedinstead of their signature.
18th of May 1826 Adam Gearheart (marker) 18th of May 1834 John Gearheart(marker) 14th of Dec 1834 Valentine Gearheart, son of John and Katherina Gearheart. In many records including the marriage record Robert Valentine used Valentine,in the Statement of William Gayheart,he is listed as Bob. 15 of September 1834 William Gearheart (marker) This William Gearheart could be William, son of John and Katherina Gearheart or William, son of Adam Gearheart and Margaret Justice, could possibly a different William. William was a name that was used throughout the Adam and John Gearheart family as well as others as well
These are the Gearhearts in the survey records, who did leave their "mark"
