I received the following enquiry this morning by Email: I saw your posting on Genforum. Do you have any information re my Grand-mother, Bertha Mitchel Geer, born Sussex, possibly Battle in 1879. Any info greatly appreciated. Sylvia.
This was my response: Thank you for your Email, I was delighted to hear from you.Yes I do have details of your grandmother's family and have been in contact with two of your second cousins (both Geer's).I have tidied up and updated the information I have which appears below.Ellis Geere may or may not be related.I include him at the beginning because of the link with Mitchell. I am not sure how the Mitchel should be spelt - I may not have been that careful when copying records.I think it is Mitchel but may be wrong. I have not found the birth or baptism for George Alfred Mitchell Geere and do not know who his parents were.He does not appear in the 1851 census - at least, I have not identified him. I have extracted most baptisms marriages and burials for Geer/Geere and other variants in Sussex so if we can find out who his parents were I may well be able to take the family back several generations, if not link him to one of the two main families which I have traced back to the 16th century. Where do you live?England, USA or elsewhere? It would be worth purchasing the marriage certificate for George in 1859 - though I fear that it is possible that he was illegitimate in which event the certificate may not name his father. Can you confirm the details of your grandmother's marriage for me to add to my notes - date, place, name of husband, any other details on the marriage certificate?I would also be interested in details of her date and place of death and brief details of her family.Did they stay in Hollington or move away, if so where to? I look forward to hearing from you.
I have not included the family tree itself as this would take up too much space but if anyone would like a copy please Email me.
