I read your message with interest.I do have full details of your Geers - at least until they left England although some of the details do not quite match those you have been told.
George William Potter Geer was born 1858 at Southease near Lewes in Sussex. He married Julia Sarah Barnham (registered June 1877 at Havant)who died as a widow 30 Jan 1922 in or near Slough aged 69.She lived at 1 Nelson Place, Chalvey, Bucks (Slough).Adminsitration of her estate was granted to her daughter Mabel Florence Heather. Her estate was valued at £108 6s.I have not identified his death for certain, he may have been the George Geer death reg 1901 at West Ham aged 45 though that may have been a different George Geer.If you believe he went to Canada in the late 1800's then this may explain why I have not traced his death in England.
They had children: Frederick George who died 1887 aged 8. Mabel Florence born 1881 Denis Charles Geer born 1883 died 1884 Charles Barnham Geer born 1887 died 1952 Arthur Henry Geer born 1889 married 1916 at Marylebone to Dorothea L.Abrahamson.They appear to have emigrated. These children were all born in Hampshire.I did not know of any others but I do have a: Herbert George Geer birth reg March 1892 at Islington in London.March in fact covers Jan, Feb and March and registration was always sometime after birth so I think this must be your grandfather.I have no further reference to him in England.
Frank Lawrence Geer born 1894 at Islington is probably another son as he lived in Slough. He has Geer descendants alive today in England.
There is then an Elsie Mabel Geer born 1901 at Islington for whom I have no further record.
In the marriage record for Charles Barnham Geer, his father George was described as a Prison Warder. In the 1881 Census he was described as a Miller.
He was baptized on 24 October 1858 at Southease son of George and Anna Sophia Geer. His father was a farm labourer and was baptized 18 Dec 1836 at Southease son of John and Charlotte Geer.John Geer was baptized 12 Feb 1795 at South Malling in Lewes, Sussex son of William and Elizabeth Geer.I believe his father William Geer was the William Geer who was killed in 1836 along with 7 others by a snowfall that demolished several houses in South Malling.
I can't be certain but I believe that William Geer was baptized 1754 at Hurstpierpoint son of Samuel and Mary Geer.I descend from their son, John Geer(e) born 1756 at Hurstpierpoint.I have traced the family back to about 1520.
I would be delighted to receive further details of your branch of the family from you.I can send you further details of my information.
