Property of BETSEY TINKHAM given to her by her honored father JOHN DYER, who departed this life April 3rd, 1822, 76 years, 6 months and 15 days. He was b. Worcester, MA, Sept. 19, 1745 new stile. Went to Norwich in Connecticut Apr. 1, 1766. He was m. at Norwich, April 16, 1768, to ELIZABETH the widow of RICHARD SMITH. They removed to Townshend in Vermont Oct. 28, 1773. Children were: BETSEY, b. Nov. 28, 1774; JOSEPH, b. June 12, 1779; d. Dec. 30, 1803. CLARA, b. Aug. 29, 1786.
The widow of the above JOHN DYER, d. at Londerry, March 17, 1826, aged 81 years lacking 7 days.
ELIZABETH GEAR was born in Norwich in Conecticut March 24th 1745 new stile, Was married to RICHARD SMITH of Norwich December 6th 1764 who perished at Sea March 12 (?) 1766 She had a child born July 5, 1766 whoom she called MARY.
MARY was maried to DAVID SMITH of Townshend, December 4th 1780. He was born ___ ___. their son RICHARD was born May 26, 1782. BATHSHEBA was b. March 23, 1784. JOSHUA was b. May 26, 1782. POLLY was b. Aprill 7, 1779. DAVID SMITH d. September 16, 1837 aged 76 years. His wife d. Oct 5th 1837, aged 71. ============================================================ Another researcher has told me that ELIZABETH had to seek a divorce in order to marry JOHN DYER, because her first husband RICHARD SMITH was lost at sea. Wondering if someone out there has these papers of divorce and could share them with me.
