Christian Houser
Was born June 12th, 1774, and departed this life, July 31st, 1847, aged 73 years. Father Houser had many afflictions during his life, being subject to chronic rheumatic pains, but ultimately died with dropsy in the chest! He was only confined about three-weeks, during which he suffered but little pain, was perfectly resigned to the will of the Lord, whether to live or die, but believing that to die was his gain. He embraced religion in his early days, and joined the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, in which he lived and died a consistent member. ***During his life his house was the preacher's home,*** and we believe that many of the old pioneers will long remember Father Houser, and his companion, who left this world of toil and care about seven months ago. We hope they arc now enjoying the fruits of their labors of love in a better world than this, where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest. The occasion was improved by a sermon in the German language by ***Bishop Russel, from Psalms 37 ch. and 37 verse, and by Elder Coursey in the English, from Psalms ch. 90, v. 12.
What if the saint must die,
And lodge among the tombs,
He need not mourn, he shall return,
Rejoicing as he comes.
Though death should him hold down,
With bands and mighty bars;
Yet he shall rise above the skies,
And sing above the stars.
