Hi Mimi, Thank you for the rundown on the children of Francis and Sarah Levy Geisinger. I was going through my meager notes on the Geisingers in anticipation of answering your response and I discovered that we have corresponded before,…in 2001.I really don’t know much more than I did then I’m sorry to say!I do have a few relative facts which you may or may not already have,… so here goes……..
I have a newspaper item that Mr. Francis Geisinger, formerly of Frederick Town in his (60th sic) year, drowned 7/8/1822 in Keefauvers Mill Dam near Middletown.(It seems most of the MD Geisingers came from the Middletown area.)
From : FuneralsBucherMiddletown:Mrs. Sarah Geisinger ag 64 y, 2 mo and 16 days, 3/8/1835.
That Francis and Sarah were married in the German Reformed Church in Frederick Town, Frederick Co., MD
That their son David was a fairly famous Naval Officer. He married Catherine Russell Pearce of Boston, at Boston 1816.
One of David’s sons was Johnston Blakely Geisinger, died at age 13 in Lawrenceville, N.J.
Another son, George Francis Geisinger , married Abigail A. Cornelison in Danville, Montour Co., PA.After his death in 1883 his widow established a hospital, now the GeisingerMedical Center, in Montour Co., PA
Commodore Geisinger’s last assignment was the Naval Asylum in Philadelphia.
There was a Charles Geisinger, born about 1758 in Frederick Co., MD, who married a Catherine.Their daughter Catherine married Michael Mower in Shepardstown (now WVA)abt 1797.Their children:Henry, Jacob, Susannah, Sarah, John, and some 6 others.Perhaps Michael Mower’s father’s name was also Henry??But still don’t have the connection who are seeking. Also have a note that Henry son of Michael and Catherine Mower, born in Frederick Co., MD by 1798 was in Utah in 1851.
Francis was born in 1763 Charles was born in 1758 My Mary was born in 1761
Johannes Geissinger, born1723, married 1750 Anna Barbara Weissin.Anna Barbara died in 1755 and in 1756 Johannes married “a surviving widow”.He fathered 9 childrenwithin his two marriages. He died of feverous disease 4/19/1777, leaving 2 sons and 3 daughters. This is the oldest reference to Geisinger that I have found in Frederick Co., But I can’t connect any of the 3 above to parents.
A George Geisinger marriedRahel Nusbaumin 5/25/1773.They resided on the Little Antietam in Frederick Co.
A Philippina Geisinger married William Dryden by license8/1/1780.
My Mary married Adam Shriner in Frederickin 1785.Adam was a son of Valentine Schreiner of Frederick Town. But other than church records I can’t find anything on Adam either.Their daughter, Ann Elizabeth Schreiner(b. 1809), married Robert White Middleton in Harpers Ferry, (now WVA) in 1828.Mary and Adam Shriner also had a son born 1788 named David.Ann and Robert Middleton had a son named Francis Geisinger Middleton.
If you have any ideas I would love to hear them! Bet Wishes, Susan Wetzl
