I have very little info on George but yes your info does match what I have. Marriage took place in Carcoxie, MO. I did not have the children so thanks for posting them. The following is what I received from Judy Gemmecke around Christmas time:
"We had contacted a Gemmecke in Colorado, and a parent of theirs replied. They spell it with the c. Her name is Betty J. Hill, and this is what she sent us that may be pertinent to your search:
George Henry Gemmecke - b. 6/1/1839 in Hofgeismar, Carlsdorf Germany) m. 2/10/1872, Mary Mae Martin, Carcoxie, MO d.5/6/1922, Seligman, MO - buried Perkins Cemetary (This is on the Web) George was a stonemason.Left Germany by way of Amsterdam in Spring of 1868. Voyage took @ 48 days; ship was lost for a time near Iceland.Contacted small pox on the voyage. After recovering in a hospital in NY, went to Terre Haute IN and lived with his sister, Marie Becker. He had 4 sisters whose names all began with Mary: Mary Marie, b. 1828, m. Louis Becker, d. 1894 Mary Elizabeth, b. 1836 (became blind as a teenager) m. ? Schnitzer Mary Philippina, b. 1821."
This is all I know about George Gemmecke but am hoping to hear from Betty Hill soon. Also am attempting to get information from the church in Hofgeismar, Germany about Mary Marie Gemmeke Becker and family. Will be happy to share whatever I discover. Are you a direct descendant of George's? Jane Ford
