Genoble and variations
A John and Maria Gianovoli arrived in Savannah in 1735 with 2 children, John, born 1732 and Seger, born 1733.They were indentures.Another child, Elizabeth, died soon after birth in 1741.If there were additional children, they did not show up in these records sent to my by a friend.
Now, in searching for the parents of a Mary Ann Gianovaly, born in Effingham in 1827, I had no luck finding the name.Eventually I located a Benjamin Genobley in the 1790 Effingham census. Then a John Genobly appeared in the Effingham census of 1820.Then I came across a John Genovoly who married a Julia Hinely in 1824 in Effingham.
Both these are the same person, I believe.John and Julia were the parents of Mary Ann as well as two other daughters and a son.
I am heading to Effingham in August to see if I can find out anything additional about this family.I have seen the name in the Spanish records as Gianopoli as well as a census listing for a Jenopoli.I think there may be reason to think that the Gianovalis, the Genoblys and the Genobles are related in some manner..may be the same family... becausethe spelling of census records and other documents were often done phonetically. In the mean time, I am interested in any information on the Genobles in general as it could prove a link that answers all of our questions.Susan
