I am the only son of Ronald David Gibbon George, in turn only son of David Gibbon George who came to London from Kilgerran, Camarthenshire, South Wales in the early 1900s.
I think my grandfather was an only child also (or perhaps he had one unmarried sister), but he had cousins called Gibbon, I believe three sisters, who lived in the area until they died unmarried or childless in the 1960s (indirect victims of the WW I).I have a picture of my great-grandfather who I think was also a David outside the estate he managed in the area in Camarthen (known then as an "estate agent").
Back in the 60s I visited my family's village Kilgerran and saw the family home which I recall was called Bryn Awel. The older residents of the village then remembered my grandfather well (they all expected me to speak Welsh!).It's a nice little village with a prominent ruined castle which is National Trust property. My family was also known in nearby villages/towns: Newcastle Emlyn and Llechryd. There is a river nearby which I recall is the Teifi (or Teivi?).
I had a number of distant relatives apart from the Gibbons known as the Michaels (Cardiff) and the Oliphants (London).Unfortunately my father died a few months ago before I could establish the precise connection, but my mother may know more or I may learn something from my dad's papers when I get a chance to go through them.
Hope you find this of interest. If you want to look for any family resemblance there's a picture of me on my company's web-site http://www.ince.co.uk/http://www.ince.co.uk/
