Thought I might be related to this family as my ancestor's name was Britton George, but it would appear not.Concerning the question of Indian blood, I thought you might appreciate information sent to me by Bonnie George White in 1997.This information is from the George Family Bible which belonged to Caraway George.The family history was written by James William George on 25 Dec. 1894 at the home of J. D. James Daniel, his first cousin.James William was born in South Carolina in 1831.The information is as follows:
Breton George was born in Botetourt Co., VA at the Catawba Villege.Date of birth not known.Died 8 Jan. 1827, Humphrey Co., TN.Served in Washington's Army and for 7 years in the 1st N.C. Vols.
Sarah Ridel was born in the Catawba Indian Nation in 1762.She was the daughter of King Hager.Her mother was a Cherokee Indian.Her sister was Mary Nations.After King Hager's death, the Boston Bess family raised her until 6 years old.The Charles Ridel family then adopted her.She married Breton George on 11 April 1785.(Marriage date found in Pittsylvania Co., VA records --this added by me)Date of death was in the 1850's.Buried in George and Nations Cemetery in Missouri.Children:
Jeremiah.Born VA 28/29 Mar. 1786.Married Roseberry Nations, his 1st cousin.
Anthony - Born 9 Apr. 1787.On March 2, 18?? married Mary Crow, the daughter of James Crow.He lived in Kent?, Georgia.Died in North Carolina 1853.
Polly -Born 12 May 1788.On April 12, 1807 she married Martin Rainwater.
William Frank - Born 16 July 1789.Married Mary Rhoades.
Mary - born 24 Sept. 1794.On Feb. 2, 1819 married George Storey.He was killed.She took the family name back.
James.Born 2 Nov. 1797.Died at age 22 years.
Joseph - born 4 Mar. 1799.Married Bessie Nations 2 June 1822.

Briton/Brittain/Britain was in Spartansburg Co., SC as early as 1790.Later found in Smith Co. & Humphrey Co., TN.
