I found two more children born to Joseph George and his wife Anna:
Nathan George b: 1780, Weare, Hillsborough, NH
Asa George b: 1782, Weare, Hillsborough, NH
It is my opinion that the two Joseph Georges (being cousins),and their wives - the two Annas, living in the same town, attending the same church, moving together from Amesbury to Weare, are the parents of the 17 children - divided between them.
Due to the lack of inclusion of the mother's maiden name in the records, the true maternal linage may never be known.
It has always been a favorite contention of mine that linage should be matrilineal and not patrilineal. No one has ever disputed maternity, but there are always cases of paternity being questioned... not only in the present day, but throughout history.
This is the reason I am questioning this particular case. We know that the father of all the children was named Joseph, but which one belongs to which child? It is a puzzlement.
