Greg, your earlier messages on this surname board (i.e., 3279, 3328, 3343) coupled with Charles Ward's post (3453) and other material I've seen have given me a working hypothesis on how our GEORGEs might fit together. It is through a common descent from Nicholas Sr. & Jr. of Lancaster Co., VA, and then a divergence through two brothers.Your line is:Thos. (1701-48), Wm. (1724-84/87) and Solomon (1757-1830).Mine is: Nicholas III, Samuel (d. 1746 Orange Co. VA), Reuben (d.c. 1819 Stokes Co. NC) -- with Jas. being either a brother or son of this Reuben.[The "Jas. George" name can be found in Chatham & Wilkes Cos. NC, though I don't know the significance, if any.]That would make Solomon and James either second cousins or 2nd cousins once removed. Is this right?-- I have no idea, but it will do as a theory until I learn enough to either support or refute it.But my sense of the matter is two-fold:I think they were related, and I think it was not a terribly close relationship. Thanks for your reply.
