I am trying to match my Russell George to any families that came out of South Carolina in the 1800s. See Alabama Family Puzzles on George Genforum for my interests.Your Griffin –George connection is of considerable interest to me. Russell George, b. SCCA 1833 according to the 1860 Census in Calhoun Co, AL, married Martha Francis Griffin, daughter of Beverly Allen Griffin, in Benton, later renamed Calhoun Co, AL in 1853. I cannot find him in any other census. He died in 1863 in Civil War. The Griffins started out in Edgefield District, SC in the late 1700s. B. A.'s father was Jesse Griffin who died there in 1807. B. A. is in Jones, Walton and DeKalb Cos, GA in 1820, 30 and 40 before showing up in Benton Co, AL in 1850. I cannot find Russell George’swidow in the 1870 Census, but in 1880 she is in the census in Blount Co, AL before going to Denton Co, TX late that year. I have found a Land Patent dated 9/26/1877 for a Martha F. George, widow with five children, for 40 Acres in Mobile County. In those days they entered on the land, farmed and improved it, and later were issued a patent or deed. My Martha F. George was a widow with five children at the time. In the mid to late 1870s, my Martha appears in Blount County where two of her daughters were married. Family lore has it that she went to his family during the civil war, but we have no idea where. If these Martha F. Georges are the same, and mine was homesteading land in Mobile County, perhaps there is some connection to your Mobile County Georges.
In looking at your posts it would appear that Carl David George may be a sibling of the Travis George who married Sarah Turner b. 31 Jan 1783 d 31 Jan 1866 and is buried Georgetown, AL. Their children have similar names such as Travis, Turner, Claiborne, Emiline, Joseph, et al. I would very much appreciate any info on where the Griffins, Malones, et al, originated in SC, as well as, group sheets with dates of birth for the Carl David George children so that I may correct my data base. I have lots of George info to share and have a data base of over 10,000 Georges and kin coming out of mostly SC, GA, AL, TN in an effort to link my Russell George family to others.
